STEERING COLUMN

We stalled getting out of the parking lot; but hopefully now we have our cruise control on and ready to roll.

HELLO FELLOW CAR CLUBBERS!!!

I apologize to any of our members that received a late newsletter last month. It is not always easy shifting from one administration to another. Our new editor and our club champion worked overtime in getting it out. We also would like to have feed-back from our members on the contents and format of the newsletter. Also, if you would like to submit an article or picture, check the back of the newsletter for the address and e-mail. A reminder, if you are able to receive this by e-mail and still receive it by regular mail, then please let the editor know. We would like to reduce our cost of mailing the newsletter.

We had a very good turn-out at the January meeting which pleases me. I suppose though that most came for the mini-event, which was a close-up of the new VUE, rather than to see their new President. We will start our meetings with some type of club interaction, then a business meeting, followed by our mini-event. The suggestion box and all officer's will be available, at or after the meetings, for any of your comments or suggestions.

FEBRUARY 7th, which is the first Thursday of the month will be our meeting at SATURN SOUTH-EAST. We are moving our meeting ONLY for this month, since Valentine's Day falls on the second Thursday. At this meeting we will be making plans for the Columbus Auto Show, which will be held at the Convention Center March 2nd thru the 10th. We in the past, have always had a good turn-out of club members at this event and would like to continue that tradition.

I also will be conducting the club's first SATURDAY MEETING. This will be held at Saturn West at 10am on February 23rd. This meeting will not be as long as our regular monthly meetings.

Our events people are working hard and have many events planned. Please read their articles and the calendar of UPCOMING EVENTS. We also will be having our first event for Saturn, in co-operation with the American Red Cross for National Donor Day, which will be held on the 16th of February at Saturn West. We NEED volunteer's with the visitors. Please sign up at the next meeting or call the hot line.

Lastly, if you want to get in touch with me you can call the hot line at 614-470-3517 or thru e-mail at

arthur.peterson@eudoramail.com

See you all at the next meeting or event.

Safety Blurb

At the January meeting the statement was made to remember to put some kitty litter in the trunk so if you got stuck on ice you could put it under your wheels for traction. A letter to Car Talk brought up that point and went on to point out that the main contents of most kitty litter is clay and that the clay would turn to mud when the tires melted the ice or snow a little. The suggestion is to carry sand in the trunk, it's cheaper.

The other thing to remember is that ALL Saturns are front wheel drive cars, so if you are stuck and are using the sand make sure that you put it under the front tires.

We need 6 to 8 volunteers and as many who can donate blood. The volunteers will work either 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The duties for the volunteers will be:

Volunteering will count toward your Active member status. Both volunteering and donating will count as an activity. What a quick way to achieve or maintain active member status.

Call our Hotline to volunteer or to donate.

2002 Columbus International Autoshow

This year’s AutoShow will start on March 2nd and run through March 10th.

We only need 50 volunteers and will start accepting names on February 7th. You can call our champion Al Clapsaddle at 771-9700 or register at our CarClub meeting on February 7th. If you call the Hotline, your request will not be accepted. We need to control requests and you MUST follow the directions to be selected. Sorry if this causes a problem but last year some were not able to get a chance and we found that our process caused some of these problems. Thanks for your understanding.

Again, each volunteer will receive money for parking and admittance to the Autoshow. Each volunteer will also get a year's pass to the Columbus Zoo. Note: There are some restrictions, which will be explained at the CarClub meeting, in February.

This event allows you time to get to know our NEW Saturn products a little better. You can also see them up close.

The information packages for the workers will be passed out on February 25th. You will be given the place and time when you are selected to participate. If you have ANY questions regarding the Autoshow, please contact Al Clapsaddle at 771-9700.

February Mini-Event

You have asked for it and we are responding. At February's CarClub meeting, we will have a representative, who will go over options on personalizing CarClub items. This will be a great way to show that you are a member of the Central Ohio Saturn CarClub.

We will also cover the changes to the Saturn product line-up for 2002. This will include the changes for the "S" series, the "L" series and the VUE.
