The President Wonders; Where’s the Heat
Time to Hibernate?

This is probably the most difficult article I have ever written. So much has happened that will change my way of life, forever. September 11th will remain a day that will cause me to look up, when I hear an airplane, flying across the sky. But it will also show me a side of America that I thought was gone. A side that brings ALL people together. Folks who "thought" they had problems pulled as one to do whatever was needed. Cool heads appear to be developing plans that will "do the right thing". BUT it is time to move on. Terrorists only win when we "hide" or let them dictate what we do.

Our next meeting is Thursday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m. at Saturn/North. I want to see EVERYONE at this meeting. Many things are upcoming, as I wind down my year as President. I want each of you to help Pete in his transition for his year as President. One thing that you can do is to run for one of our Offices. I have said this before and I will continue to say it. We need your input. We also need to see NEW faces. Any organization will go stale IF it does not renew itself with new people and new ideas. With Pride I say we have one of the best Saturn CarClubs in America. But we still want to "exceed our expectations". We will be taking CarClub officer nominations at the October meeting.

If you can’t make the meeting, call our Hotline and nominate someone or nominate yourself. The direction that our CarClub will take in 2002 is in each of your hands. You will find a brief description of the various offices that we have on page two of this newsletter. After reading it, step up and be heard.

I hope most of you took advantage of the nice day and joined us on "Saturn Day at the Zoo". I believe it was the largest Saturn Day in the 11 years that we have had it. Andrea Cambern took time to visit our CarClub tent and pose for a picture with a couple of our members. We donated $250.00 to the Spielman Breast Cancer fund. We also sold quite a few T-shirts and ever a couple of Sweatshirts.

At our October meeting, we will finally start our voting for a name for our "Corner Person". Please remember to give us "name" suggestions. The person who submits the winning name will receive a very nice surprise.

We hope to have both the "Window Tint" and SPS as our mini-events for October. Call our hotline to get the latest information BEFORE the meeting.

In closing, again I ask ALL 200 of you to show up at this meeting.

Remember, you are not just IN the Club, you ARE the Club!

Central Ohio CarClub
Officer Positions

Nominations for new CarClub officer positions will be taken at the October meeting. Voting will take place at the November meeting. Below are brief descriptions of our Elected Officer Positions:

Vice-President

This position is the key to our year to year stability. The person who is elected to this position serves two years. He/She becomes the President the second year. He/She assists the President and is a backup if something happens and the President can not continue or is not able to attend a meeting/function. Requirements are wanting to have fun and being a People person.

Treasurer

This person is the money keeper. They make sure that we know where ALL our money is and they must be able to account (in case of an audit) for all incoming and outgoing funds. To assist with this position, we have a computer program called Quicken, which is passed to the officer in this position.

Secretary

This position keeps track of everything we do. This person makes sure that we record all meetings and events so that future Officers know what has worked and what has not worked. This position works BEST if the Secretary has MS word.

Events

This position requires the most work but is the most fun. Creativity is a BIG plus. Have something that you think others will enjoy then this position is for you.

Safety/Historian

This position makes sure that we do not engage in an event or an action, which could harm us. They are also holder to the "Book" The book describes the many things we have been a part of since we first started in 1996.

Membership

This position is critical to our survival. It makes sure that all members information is up to date and makes sure that NEW members get their information, in a timely manner. This position works with the National CarClub to correct any member "membership" problems.

Newspaper Editor/Publisher

This position is our main avenue to our members, our Sponsoring Retailers, the National CarClub and other CarClub chapters. About 3 days a month, this position is VERY busy. If you always wanted to be Jimmy Olson or Lois Lane, then give this position a try. The Monthly Planet is published using MS Word 97.

Help Needed

The year 2001 is rapidly coming to a close. We will be nominating at the October meeting and voting at the November meeting for the new officers of the club. ATTENTION ALL CLUB MEMBERS; I will become your new President but can’t do all by myself. I will need a few good members that have a desire to be part of the movement of the club.

I would like to fill the new board with both experienced officers and NEW PEOPLE that have never served. Qualifications include the desire to serve and work with the team. Also, note there is nothing wrong with nominating yourself for an office. After all that is how I became a candidate for vice president.

I also want all perspective officers to know that you won’t be left dangling. You WILL have the entire support of the NEW BOARD and I plan to be a HAND’S ON PRESIDENT. Changes are coming and I NEED YOU to be part of that change. I’ll be available at the 0ctober and November meeting to answer any questions. Thank-you.

From the Activities Chair

The CarClub activity for October will either be held on October 27th or October 28th. The date depends on which activity you would like to to.

The first option is to go on a hike, as was originally planned for October. This would be held on Saturday October 27th. The Ohio State football game is at Penn State that day.

There are three hikes to choose from:

1. Mohican State Park, SE of Mansfield Ohio, and then go to Der Dutchman restaurant to eat.

2. John Bryan State Park, South of Springfield Ohio, and then go to Young’s Dairy for ice cream and/or food.

3. Hocking Hills State Park (Old Man’s Cave), SW of Logan Ohio, taking a picnic lunch along.

The second option is a Car Rally, to be held on Sunday, October 28th.

Now that you know the options, we would like you, the CarClub members, to tell us which option you would like to do. We will take a vote at the October meeting and I will make the required arrangements. Please come and cast your vote and then come and participate!

Our December meeting is always very special, so mark your calendars for December 13th. We will have a short meeting and then go to a nursing home and sing carols to the residents. The residents love to see us come and we all have a good time.

Please join us at YOUR CarClub activities. As always, check the Hotline for details on when and where the activities are taking place.

Thanks

Cheryl and I would like to thank the CarClub for the flowers that were sent for my mother, Ruth Clifton. She passed away on September 1st after a long illness. Over the years, we had told her about the CarClub, our friends (only good stuff!), and what we were doing. In fact, I visited her in the hospital the morning of the Poker Rally. I told her about the gifts that I had wrapped and how there was a brick in them to mask what each box held. She thought that was very funny. When we went back the next evening, she was full of questions about how the Rally went, and she laughed as we told her of the good humored "stealing" that went on with the gifts.

Cheryl and I, and my entire family, will miss her and we thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Adopt-a-Highway

Heads-up our next adopt-a-highway is planned for October 13th, THE FINISH. If enough CarClub members who want to participate want to move it to the third weekend in October, we can do it! This depends on DEMAND. Come to the October meeting and let your voice be heard. Check the Hotline to find out which Saturday the Adopt-A-Highway will be held.

St Angela Bingo

Don’t forget Bingo, October 18th at 7:00 p.m., at St Angela Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located at 5700 Karl Road.

(South of Rt. 161 on the East side of Karl Rd)

On September 20th the following CarClub members participated:

John and Peggy Williams,
Bob and Luanna Leadbetter,
Al Clapsaddle, Phil Carter,
John , Jacob, and Jenna Herbst,
Barb Nissley, Libby Bryan
Debbie Rusnak, Roy Hilsabeck,
Pete Peterson, and ChiChi Digman.

CarClub members have a lot of fun and the residents of St Angela really look forward to the Bingo games! Come and join us in this very rewarding service project!

Contest for Naming Corner Boy/Girl

Since the September monthly meeting was cancelled; we will now hold the voting of the name at the October meeting. We have accumulated a lot of names and hopefully, it all will be done in one evening. We should have this completed before we vote again in November on the new officer’s.

The Corner Boy/Girl by the way was a big hit at the Saturn Day at the Zoo. We placed it against Al’s car as if looking in the back window. Remember too that the winner of the naming contest will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to be used at your local friendly Saturn dealership. It should be a fun evening and finally give this "kid" a name.

ROAD RALLY

Thank YOU! That’s right! Thank You!

Because of your wanting to have fun, our Road Rally was a HUGE success. About 30 folks decided to take advantage of this event and had a day filled with many adventures.

The weather did not cooperate but you still came. Even one car accident, did not stop the event (no one was seriously injured).

The party (from what this reporter heard), went on to around 10 p.m. Everyone who attended was a winner.

We also had 12 gifts from Saturn of Columbus that the first 12 places received. The "CarCare" package and the Saturn "alarm/calculator/calendar" prizes were the most sought after.

Our world famous Chef, kept all of us happy and everyone left with a full stomach.

We are still trying to get one more Rally before the end of this year. Watch your newsletter and call our Hotline, if you are interested.
