Poolside Reflections with the President
By the time you receive this, our first Road Rally will be history. As of this writing, about 25 members have signed up and it appears we will have a GREAT time.
This month our BIG event will be Saturn Day at the Zoo. This will be on Sunday September 16th. We will have many CarClub items for sale. Please stop by and say hi! The proceeds from this annual event help to keep our dues in check. It also allows us the funds, for our various charities and member events.
Our September meeting will be at Saturn/West. At this time our mini-event will be "Mid-Ohio Tint". They are working on clearing an item from their schedule and we hope they will be available. They have tinted two member’s cars and both really look great. Call our Hotline before the meeting. If Mid Ohio Tint will NOT be available; we will let you know on the message. Our tentative October mini-event will be SPS. Due to popular demand, they will be back to talk about handling and suspension issues.
September 1st will be the start of the Saturn National CarClub "Pilot Program". For three months, on every NEW or USED Saturn sold by Saturn of Columbus, there will be a CarClub brochure hanging from the rearview mirror.
We will track and see how many NEW members we sign up from this process. If it is a success, then Saturn plans on expanding this program to all Retailers, across the country.
By now ALL members should have the NEW CarClub member’s card. If you do not have one or you have received one that has an error on it, call us immediately! We can’t fix it if we do not know about it.
As the year winds down, now is the time to think about joining us as a CarClub Officer for 2002. It is really a lot of fun and if you like meeting people, this is a great way to do it. Call our Hotline if you are interested or better yet, join us at a CarClub event and talk to us. We will be glad to share any information.
If you were not able to attend our August meeting, you missed the chance to get a FREE "Oil Change" coupon. We have a NEW supply of coupons and will be distributing them at various CarClub activities. Think of it, come to a CarClub event and get a coupon that is worth about $25.00. What A deal!
Finally, don’t forget to make a NAME suggestion for our own "Corner Boy/Girl". The winner of the name selected will receive a very nice gift. Voting will take place at our September meeting.
Remember, you are not just IN the Club, you ARE the Club!

...From the Membership Chair
Well, another summer is almost gone. I hope everyone had a good one.
If everything holds true to form, Saturn should now be caught-up with all the changes in the membership that took place this year. For those of you who may still be awaiting new cards with the active member status, they should be in your hands by the time you read this. The form was e-mailed to Saturn after the last event of June. Saturn was closed the first two weeks of July, from what I understand, so this may have slowed things a bit. Also, I had a leave during that time, so the check for the latest renewals had to wait until I returned and could get with the treasurer.
We had a good turnout for the August Adopt-A-Highway program and a really great turnout for the August bingo event. Thank you to all that participated!
Remember that starting July 1st, it now takes 6 points to earn the active member status. Some members are well on the way to earning their points for July 2002. Note that if you already have an active member card you will NOT receive another one until after you renew. This will keep the work down (and probably some confusion) at the National CarClub level. When June arrives we will again get cards issued for those members who have earned their points through June 2002. If you do not have active member status yet as soon as you earn it we will have a new card issued for you. We want you to get all the benefits that are due you. Remember that if you want active member status for both this year and next, you need to really get active. It’s work, but it’s worth it. Plus you may get a free something-or-another when you come to the meetings and events. At the August meeting we all got a free oil change...not bad. Only paid-up members qualify for these freebies, so make sure you’re up to date.
Be sure to come to the September meeting and see what is new and different with the local Chapter. It should be fun. Remember also, the ‘name the corner kid’ voting takes place at the September meeting.
For all those who expire the last day of September, "This is your last newsletter". Be sure to get your dues sent in if you received an invoice from me. Check your expiration date on the mailing label (or contact me by email if you get the newsletter that way) if you have any doubts.
That’s all for now. See you at the September meeting.

Adopt-a-Highway
The Saturn Car Club did their good deed on cleaning our section of the highway on the 11th of August. The section had their BIG GUNS out. Nobody was after us but the machinery was out leveling land and building. Those of you who are familiar with our piece know the landmark of those traffic lights that mark our one-mile mark. That section is now being commercialized. They are building a Meijer and a Walgreen. Therefore, within a short distance we will or do have a drug store, hospital, and at last resort a cemetery.
My THANKS to the following members for doing their part:
JAKE HERBST, JOHN HERBST, JANE BOOTH, LIZ STURGES, CHRIS ALTENBURG, and PETE PETERSON.
THANKS ALSO to SATURN for providing lunch.
Heads-up our next adopt-a-highway will be in October, THE FINISH. However, I may be out of town the usual weekend, therefore since I do not want to miss all the fun it will be moved to either the first weekend or the third weekend in October. This depends on DEMAND.
Pete

Saturday CarClub Meeting
Once a quarter the CarClub has Saturday meetings for those of you who cannot make it to our normal Thursday evening meetings because of work, school, or home conflicts.
We hope to see more of you at our next Saturday meeting, 10:00 a.m. September 22nd at Saturn/Southeast
Our CarClub Champion
Life is always changing and that goes for our CarClub. Recently, our CarClub Champion, Tim Jackson, decided to leave Saturn of Columbus and an opening was created. Thanks Tim for all your help and good luck in your new job! We would like to welcome our NEW CarClub Champion (a person most of us already know), Al Clapsaddle!
You probably thought that the Champion was also an employee of Saturn of Columbus and you were right. After 33 years with AT&T and Lucent Technologies, Al accepted the early retirement package and now is a Sales Consultant, at Saturn/West in Hilliard.
The Champion is the go between for our CarClub chapter, The National Saturn CarClub Team, and our Business partner, Saturn of Columbus. The Champion takes our requests and makes sure that they get to the right Team. He/She also receives information from the National CarClub Team and shares it with the chapter. If the Champion is not engaged with the CarClub, it makes our job very difficult. Al has six years of CarClub experience and we know that our interests will be shared with the National Team and our Business Partner. Welcome aboard Al!
If you are in the market for a New or Used vehicle, then give Al a call at Saturn/West. At Saturn of Columbus, he is able to meet you at any of the three locations. Al does ask if you already have a Sales Consultant, to contact them. In the Saturn Tradition, all referrals are honored.
We wish Al Good Luck in his New career and hope you get a chance to work with him, for your future vehicle needs.
Car
Club Members at Saturn of ColumbusWe would like to point out that a couple of our CarClub members have moved on. What we mean by that is that they have progressed to a new level. Both of them started out as Saturn car owners and became Saturn CarClub members. Now both of them are Sales Consultants with our business partner, Saturn of Columbus.
Who are these individuals who have taken their Saturn car ownership and CarClub membership to this new level? Jim Lewis and Al Clapsaddle.
Both of them are now Sales Consultants with Saturn of Columbus. Both of them are at Saturn/West in Hilliard.
Saturn/West must be offering "something" to get both of these CarClub members???!!!??? Must be the cookies. <grin>
Congratulations Jim and Al!
