The Old Testament Book of 1 Samuel
There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee:
neither is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so exceeding
proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is
a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

* 1 * Hannah's prayer, Samuel is born and is lent to the Lord.
* 2 * Hannah's prayer of rejoicing, The sin of Eli's sons, Eli rebuked.
* 3 * The Lord calls Samuel.
* 4 * Philistines overcome Israelites, Israel brings ark into the camp
ark is taken death of Eli, his sons, and his daughter in law.
* 5 * The Philistines put the ark of God in Dagon's temple in Ashdod;
the city is smote by emerods; ark is sent to Gath and Ekron.
* 6 * Philistines return the ark in a cart drawn by kine.
* 7 * Ark installed at Kirjathjearim in Abinadab's house; Israel repents,
Samuel tells them to put away false gods, Israel gathers to fast &
pray but Philistines gather to fight; God discomforts the Philistines.
* 8 * Samuel son's appointed judges, but they walked not in his ways;
Israelites desire a king, Samuel tells Israel of the way of kings.
* 9 * Saul seeketh his father's asses; Saul seeketh Samuel; God tells
Samuel that Saul is to be king.
* 10 * Samuel annoints Saul as king. Saul prophesies; Samuel gathers
Israel and proclaims Saul as king.
* 11 * Nahash the Ammonite camps against Jabesh Gilead; Saul leads army.
* 12 * Samuel calls for witnesses against himself, Samuel reminds Israel
of the goodness of God and calls for obedience.
* 13 * War with the Philistines; Saul disobeys & offers sacrifices; no
smith is found in Israel.
* 14 * Jonathan smites the Philistines; Saul' oath; people save Jonathan.
* 15 * God instructs Saul through Samuel to utterly destroy Amalek, But Saul
spares the king and the best. God rejects Saul as King.
* 16 * God sends Samuel to annoint David as king. An evil spirit comes to
Saul. David chosen to play his harp before Saul.
* 17 * The challenge of Goliath is taken by David. The Philistines flee.
* 18 * David & Jonathan's souls are knit. Saul envies & fears David & tries
to kill him with a javelin. David marries Michal with a dowry of 200
Philistines.
* 19 * Saul seeks to kill David. Jonathan interceeds successfully for David.
Saul again seeks to kill David. David escapes his house through a
window & goes to Samuel. Saul's messengers come to David & the spirit
of the Lord comes upon them & they prophesy. Saul comes & he prophesies.
* 20 * David inquires of Jonathan the reason for Saul's attempts to slay him.
Jonathan & David's covenant. The message to be delivered by arrows.
* 21 * David flees to Ahimelech the priest and then to Achish king of Gath.
* 22 * David flees to Adullem and many come unto himn. He provides for his
parents & moves into Hareth. Doeg kills the priests of God at Saul's
command.
* 24 * David spares Saul's life in the cave.
* 25 * Death of Samuel, David's dealings with Nabal and Abigail.
* 26 * David spares Saul's life but takes his spear & a cruse of water.
* 27 * David flees to Achish king of Gath. David invades the Geshurites.
* 28 * Achish tells David he will go to battle with him against Israel. Saul
visits the witch of Endor.
* 29 * Philistine Lords tell Achish to send David & his men home.
* 30 * Ziklag is spoiled by Amalekites, but David & his men recover the spoil.
* 31 * Saul and his sons are slain at Gilboa.
