MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM FOR ACQUISITION OF LOW-VISION READERS AND
VIDEO MAGNIFIER DEVICES TO BE PLACED IN PUBLIC LIBRARIES
Summary of grants issued
The Ohio Lions Foundation has extended the matching grant program for the acquisition
of low-vision readers / video magnifier devices to be placed in public libraries.
1- Matching grants may be awarded in an amount not to exceed $1,500.00 each toward the
cost of acquiring qualified low-vision readers / video magnifier devices to be place in
public libraries;
2- As a condition for eligibility for matching grants under this program, all grant
applications must be submitted by a Lions Club and accompanied by a letter from an
authorized representative of the recipient public library confirming (a) the need for the
equipment, (b) that a suitable location is available within the library, (c) that the library
will accept ownership of the equipment, and (d) that the library will agree to properly
maintain the equipment;
3- A permanent plaque will be placed on each unit acknowledging that the unit was
provided by [name of participating Lions Club] and the Ohio Lions Foundation;
4- Once a matching grant has been approved by the Foundation, the participating Lions
Club will have a period of twelve months from the date of approval of the grant in which
to raise the necessary matching funds;
5- A total of twenty-one (21) matching grants of $1,500.00 each were initially approved for
the fiscal year ending June 30, 2003, and by the end of the fiscal year, an additional ten
(10) grant applications were on a waiting list. At the 2003 state convention, the trustees
approved the additional ten applications on the waiting list for a total of thirty-one (31)
grants for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2003.
6- Grant applications are currently being accepted and placed on a waiting list for the
current fiscal year ending June 30, 2004. The grant applications will be acted upon, in
chronological order, by the Executive Committee as soon as the Foundation's budget for
this year is approved by the trustees.
7- Initially, grants under this program will be limited to one grant per Lions Club per fiscal
year;
8- If the number of grant applications exceeds the budget allotment for this fiscal year, the
additional grant applications will automatically be placed at the top of the waiting list for
the following fiscal year without the necessity of filing a new application;
9- The Foundation's Executive Committee is empowered to award grants under this
program, within the budgeted allotment, after determining that the foregoing
requirements have been satisfied;
10- Grant applications must be submitted in writing by the participating Lions Club,
accompanied by the required letter from the public library to receive the unit, and may be
submitted either through the district trustee or directly to the Secretary of the Ohio Lions
