November 2009 Newsletter
From the Club Secretary…
1. Special thanks to Lion
Gary Glanzman and daughter Vanessa of Eastway Supplies for hosting our October
Board meeting. A tradition begun many
years ago by Lion A.J. “Bud” Glanzman and son, Lion Gary. The Southeast Lions are certainly grateful
for their generous hospitality.
2. The countdown continues toward the end of our 61st Lions Roar ad sales campaign. On Tuesday, November 3, ALL ADS ARE DUE!!
This has been a very tough year for many and we are so very grateful for
those who continue to support our Southeast Lions Club. That support is what makes our projects
possible. To all Lions who were ABLE
and who CHOSE to participate, we say “THANK YOU, YOU ARE THE GREATEST!” When the ad sales phase is complete, it’s
time to start planning the distribution phase.
It takes place on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, December 5 at
various southeast locations.
Distribution Chairman Joe Nagy needs ALL LIONS to be involved in
this two day event. If you need an
assignment or if you have extra help, please contact Joe.
Captains need to have all
supplies and equipment ready by those dates to make this a success. PLEASE LIONS, GET INVOLVED! WE NEED YOUR HELP! (Remember the oath you took when you joined this Lions
Club). Anyone who has supplies such as
paper bags or red vests, please let me know how many so that we can
appropriately outfit our sales crew.
3. To those members who have not paid their 2009 dues, PLEASE PAY
UP!! The Club has already paid your per
capita dues to State and International. Three notices have been sent out for these
dues which were due on July 1. If there is a problem please contact me or
Lion Financial Secretary Tom Proctor.
Let’s get this issue over with!
As editor of our 61st
Lions Roar, I am grateful to those who provided editorial assistance. This
fundraising event takes a lot of work, but the fruits are great. Remember that the success or failure of this
Southeast Lions Club revolves around the paper sale. Please folks, DON’T LET US DOWN!
Thanks to Tom “Roddy” Nagy
his service to the Southeast Lions Club.
We hope he’ll be able to rejoin us soon. Special thanks to brother and sponsor Lion Joe for inviting
Tom. We appreciate the service he rendered
during his membership tenure. Lion Secretary George Poppy, Jr.
VISITATIONS… The Southeast Lions continue their visits to other
District 13F Clubs. The Whitehall and
Groveport Madison Lions have survived our recent visits. Lion President Mike is leading the way, so
let’s “follow the leader” (do you remember how to play that game??)
MEMBERSHIP… Blank membership applications are still available from
Lion Secretary George or Membership Chairman Ray Byers. Let’s see if we can reach 65 members by June
2010. Membership is our duty as Lions!
November Birthdays… Happy Birthday to y’all
, and many more!
Rich Sammons (7th), Steve Aumiller (9th), Bob Ghiloni (15th),
Maarten Swart (23rd),
George Poppy (23rd)
Speaker’s
Bureau… Program Chair John Eberts has once again arranged for some
outstanding speakers for the month of November. How about showing John some appreciation by attending the Tuesday
meetings.
NOVEMBER 3… MR. GARY STRAPP OF

“

COMMUNITY
“ 17… DISTRICT 13F, GOVERNOR BARRY R. BRANDT
“ 24… THANKSGIVING MESSAGE, LION REV. SCOTT
TROBOUGH
Zone Meeting… Zone Chairman
Ray Byers will preside over a Zone 5 meeting on Wednesday, November 18 at the Golden Corral Restaurant on Stringtown Rd. Grove City Lions will be hosting. Dinner at 5:30pm with meeting
following. Ray would like a sizeable
contingent from every club in the district, esp. from his own club, Columbus
Southeast. Call Lion Ray or Lion
President Mike for reservation.
Editorial… By the time you
receive this newsletter the ad sales campaign for the 2009 Lions Roar will have
ended. The monies realized through this
effort will be used to pay the expenses of producing our product, The Lions
Roar newspaper. After expenses the net
will be combined with donations received during the distribution phase to fund
the projects of our Southeast Lions Club during the coming year. Our limitations are dictated by the amount
that we raise. I’d like every dues
paying member to ask themselves two questions:
Did I do all that I could have done to help my club accomplish its’
goals? And secondly: Couldn’t I have done just a little bit
more? Please keep your answers to
yourselves, no explanations necessary!
More one-liners, …
The
doctor gave a man six months to live.
He said he was sorry but he couldn’t pay his bill, so the doctor gave him
six more months……………
The
doctor called and said, “Mrs. Smith your check came back”. She said “Yeah, and so did my arthritis”……………………….
The
doctor said, “You’ll live to be seventy”. The man said “but I am seventy”. The doc says “See, what did tell
you”………………
A
doctor holds a stethoscope to a man’s chest, and the man asks “How do I stand?”
The doc says “That’s what puzzles me”………
Remember, there is still time to get on board and help with the
sale of the Lions
Roar. Call Mike Kerek, George Poppy or
Joe Nagy and offer your services.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
