Valentine’s Dinner Meeting

A wonderful evening was enjoyed by Lions and spouses/guests at our Valentine’s Dinner meeting held on February 22^nd (delayed due to snow and ice on the 15^th). The food was outstanding (thanks again Tim Kihr) and the entertainment by the Westerville South jazz ensemble was very good.

Presidents Message

This February has been a real bear! We usually get our worst winter weather in late December and early January, and by now things would start to get mellow. There’s still four inches of snow in my yard, and I’ve had to sleep with my socks on for over four weeks! But I do notice that the sun is still up past 6 pm!

The lousy weather postponed our Valentine’s Day shindig, but the event we had this past Thursday (the 22^nd) was outstanding. Thanks to all who put it together especially Lions Don Niebling and Bill Riggs, as well as “Lion” June Riggs (without whose help …, well, you know). The food was great, the table decorations special, the waiter service outstanding, and the entertainment entertaining!

Lions Jim Shively and Bill Riggs also prepared a grant application to obtain national LCIF money and support to offer a glaucoma screening program here in Westerville. Our grant application was for $7,500. Depending on how many other clubs submitted, we might get lucky and get the dough.

Our pancake breakfast is coming up on March 3^rd. I’d like to see all Lions participating this year, whether you are flipping cakes, pouring coffee, cleaning tables, taking tickets, or directing traffic, we need everyone out for this money-making event.

I said last month that our Lions’ club is only as good as its members. We have great members and a great club!

District 13-F News

Deputy District Governor Bob Stagger needs your help on Friday April 13^th from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm with his Campaign for District 13 F’s Vice-District

Governor for Lion’s Year 2007 – 2008! He would appreciate representation of all Westerville Lions

on Saturday April 14^th from 9:00 am thru the business meeting, which should end by 3 pm. Please call Lion Craig Watt and let him know when you will be available.

The District13F Convention starts at 6:00 pm Friday Night at the Best Western Hotel on E. Dublin – Granville Rd (just behind the North Sport’s Fitness Center and The Pizza Hut) on the north side of Rt. 161 W. Friday night is a free night and everyone is invited to attend, including spouses/guests, and enjoy free hospitality. Many clubs will have hospitality rooms promoting, either their candidate for a district office or their club. Hopefully our members will put in at least 2 hours at DDG Bob’s and our own Westerville Lion’s Hospitality Room!

Immediate Past President Lion Tom White and his wife Susan will be the entertainment on Friday night and there will be a District Wide Talent Show. The winner will be sent to the State Convention on the 3^rd Weekend in May! Lion Tom and Susan are a professional team and those of you who have seen them perform, know what a treat this will be! Remember, spouses and guests are encouraged to attend.

New Lions Mints Location

Lion Bill Phythyon reports that we now have a tray of Lion’s mints at a new location, Dr. Todd Clark’s office at 550 S. Cleveland Avenue, Westerville.
