The Old Testament Book of Ezekiel

Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

Ezek 18:23 KJV

-----------------------------------------------------------------

* CHAP * COMMENTS

The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel, the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.
* 1 *In the 5th year of King Jehoiachin's captivity, the word of the Lord came unto Ezekiel in the Land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar. From the north came a whirlwind out of the midst came the likeness of 4 living creatures. Above was the likeness of a throne and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness of a man
* 2 *Son of Man stand and I will speak unto thee. I send thee to the Children of Israel. Be not afraid of them. Thou shalt speak my words to them. Son of man, be not thou rebellious like that house. Eat what I give you. And a book was there written therein were lamentations mourning and woe.
* 3 *He caused me to eat that roll. Son of man, go unto the House of Israel and speak my words unto them. But they will not hearken to thee. Don't fear them. Receive all of my words into your heart. So the spirit lifted me & I came to those of the captivity at Telabib. After 7 days the word of the Lord came unto me saying, "I have made thee a watchman unto the House of Israel" When I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and you will say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God.
* 4 *Son of Man, draw the city of Jerusalem on a tile. Lay siege against it. Use an iron pan as a wall between you and the city. This is a sign to the house of Israel. Lay on your left side and bear the sin of Israel for 390 days. A day for the year of their sins. When this is done, lie 40 days on your right side and bear the sin of Judah. A day for each year. Make bread and eat it as barley cakes. Drink water by measure. Bake it with dung. I will break the staff of break in Jerusalem. They will want bread & water, & will waste away because of their sin.
* 5 *Son of man, take a sharp knife, cut off your hair and beard. With balances divide the hair. When the days of your seige are completed burn a third in the city, smite a third with the knife & scatter a third in the wind. I have set Jerusalem in the midst of nations about her. She changed my judgements into wickedness. Therefore I am against thee. I will not have any pity. A third will die with the pestilence, a third will fall with the sword & a third will I scatter. I will make thee a waste & a reproach amont the nations.
* 6 *Son of Man, Prophecy! Say to the mountains, hills, rivers, & valleys - I will bring a sword upon you. I'll destroy your high places & alters Your slain will be laid before your idols. Your cities will be wasted But I'll leave a remnant that will remember me. They will fall by the sword, by famine, by pestilence. Then will ye know -- I am the Lord.
* 7 *An end is come on the 4 corners of the land. I'll judge thee by thy ways. My eye won't spare thee. You will know that I am the Lord that smiteth. My face I'll turn from them. They'll pollute my secret place. I'll bring the worst of the heathen & they will possess their houses.
* 8 *In the 6th year, the 6th month, the 5th day, the hand of the Lord God fell upon me. The spirit lifted me up and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem. Looking to the North, the image of jealousy was in in the entry. The Lord showed me 70 of the ancient of the house of Israel with censer in hand before the idols, the creeping things, the abominable beasts portrayed on the wall. Looking to the North, sat women weeping for Tammuz. In the inner court of the Lord's House were about 25 men worshipping the sun. Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commeit these abominations?
* 9 *God calls for a mark to be placed on any that sign and cry for the abominations that are done in the midst of the city. He sends others to slay those without the mark.
* 10 *A likeness as a throne as of saphire appears above the head of the cherubims - the living creatures that Ezekiel saw by the river Chebar.
* 11 *At the east gate 25 men are identified as men who devise mischief and give wicked counsel in the city. The Lord says, I know the things that come into your mind, everyone of them. You have feared the sword and I will bring a sword upon you. You will know that I am the Lord You have not walked in my statutes but have done as the heathen about you." I said Lord,"Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?" The Lord said,"I will assemble you out of the countries where youl have been scattered. I will give them one heart and will put a new spirit within you; I will remove their stony heart and give them a heart of flesh that they will keep my ordinances and they will be my people.
* 12 *The word of the Lord came unto me saying that I lived in a rebellious house. They have eyes to see and see not; ears to hear and hear not. I was told to go in and out as those who go into captivity. I did as I was commanded. The Lord said to tell them that the sign is for them. The prince wll go to Babylon but he will not see it though he shall die there. They will know that I am the LORD when I scatter them in the countries. Tell them the days are at hand. I am the LORD: I will speak and my word will come to pass. In your days I will perform it.
* 13 *The word of the Lord came unto me saying prophesy against the prophets of Israel. My hand shall be upon the prophets that divine lies. Ye shall know that I am the Lord God. They have seduced my people saying Peace and there was no peace. Likewise prophesy against the daughters of thy people. Will you pollute me for handfuls of barley and pieces of bread to slay souls that should not die and to save those that shouldn't live. With lies you've saddened the heart of the righteous, and strengthened the hands of the wicked. I'll deliver my people from your hands and you will know that I am the LORD.
* 14 *When certain elders came to me the Lord said that these men have set up idols in their heart. Tell them I will answer them according to the multitude of their idols. Tell Israel to repent and turn from your idols. Anyone who inquires of me with idols in his heart I will set my my face against that man. When the Land sins, I will stretch my hand out against it. Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they would deliver but their own souls by their righteousness.
* 15 *The word of the Lord came unto me. What is the vine more than any tree? Shall wood be taken of it to do work? It's cast in the fire for fuel. How much less is it of use for work after it is burned? As the vine tree burned for fuel so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
* 16 *The word of the Lord came unto me saying cause Jerusalem to know her abominations. When you were born of a Hittite mother & Amorite father, none pitied you. You were cast into the open field. When I passed by, I said to you, Live!. I have caused you to multiply and now I passed by thy time was the time of love; and I entered into a covenant with with you and you became mine. I decked you with gold and silver and your renown went forth among the heathen. But trusting in your own beauty you played the harlot. You sacrifieced the sons and daughters that you had borne unto me. Is it a small matter that you have slain my children. As a wife commiting adultery, taking strangers instead of her husband. Whores get gifts, but you gave gifts to your lovers. I will judge thee.
* 17 *Put forth a riddle and a parable to the house of Israel. Do you know what these things mean? The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and took the king and the princes to Babylon. He made a covenant that made him base but let him stand. But he rebelled and sent to Egypt. As I live, says the Lord, he will die in the midst of Babylon.
* 18 *Behold, all souls are mine. If a man be just he shall live. The soul that sins will die. The son does not bear the iniquity of the father. The father does not bear the iniquity of the son. Have I any pleasure that the wicked should die & not that he should return from his ways, and live. Repent and turn from your transgressions so iniquity is not your ruin. Make you a new heart and a new spirit. I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies.
* 19 * Take a lamentation for Israel's princes. What is your mother? A lioness. One of her whelps learned to catch prey and devour men. The nations caught him in a pit and brought him to Egypt. Another of her whelps also learned to catch prey and devour men. The nations took him in their pit and took him to the king of Babylon. Your mother is like a fruitful vine planted by many waters. But she was pulled up in fury. She is now planted in a dry and thirsty ground. She has no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule.
* 20 *In the 7th year the word of the Lord came to be when certain elders of Israel set before me to inquire of the Lord. The Lord said, "I will not be inquired of by you. Son of man cause them to know the abominations of their fathers. When I chose Israel in the land of Egypt and said, I am the Lord your God; I told them to not defile themselves with the idols of Egypt. But they rebelled against me. I caused them go go out of Egypt for my names sake. I gave them my statues and showed them my judgements, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. When the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness, I would not take them into the land which I had given them. I told their children to not defile themselves with idols, to keep my statutes. But the children rebelled against me. Son of man, they trespassed against me when I brought them into the land. You pollute yourselves with your idols even unto this day. ll rule over you with a stretched out arm & a mighty hand. I'll bring you out of the people and the countries wherein you are scattered. I will purge out from among you the rebels and them that transgress against me. If you will not hearken unto me, pollute my holy name no more with your gifts and your idols. You will know I am the Lord when I bring you into the land of Israel. You will remember your ways and shall loathe yourselves for the evils you have committed. Son of man set your face toward and prophesy against the south.
* 21 *Son of man prophesy against the land of Israel. Say, I am against thee. I will cut off the righteous and the wicked that all may know I have drawn my sword out of its sheath. Sigh, son of man. When they ask why you are sighing, tell them all hands will be feeble, every spirit shall faint. Son of man say a sword is sharpened to make slaughter. Cry and howl for it will be upon my people. Son of man appoint two ways the the sword of Babylon may come upon Rabbath of the Ammonites and to Judah in Jerusalem. Take off the crown. I will overturn it and it shall be no more until he come whose right it is and I will give it him.
* 22 *Son of man will you judge the bloody city? You will show her all her abominations. You are guilty in the blood that you have shed and have defiled yourself in your idols. Those near and far will mock you. The princes of Israel have shed blood, set light by father and mother, oppressed the stranger, vexed the fatherless and the widow. You have despised my holy things and have profaned my sabbaths. Men carry tales to shed blood, they commit lewdness in thy midst. I have smitten my hand over your dishonest gain. Can your hands be strong in the days that I will deal with you? I will scatter you among the heathen. You will know that I am the LORD. The house of Israel is become dross. Therefore I will gather you in my anger and melt you as silver is melted in the furnace. You are the land that is not cleansed. The prophets conspire, they devour souls, they have taken the treasure. The priests have violated my law, and profaned my holy things. Your princes are like wolves ravening the prey for dishonest gain. The prophets have divined lies unto them. The people of the land have used oppression, exercised robbery, and vexed the stranger & the poor & needy. I looked for a man that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land that I should not destroy it, but I found none.
* 23 *Son of man there were 2 women, sisters- who committed whoredoms in Egypt (Aholah - the elder is Samaria, Aholibah his sister is Jerusalem. They were mine. Aholah played the harlot and doted on her Assyrian lovers. With their idols she defiled herself. She did not leave her whoredoms that she brought from Egypt. I have delivered her into the hands of her lovers - The Assyrians upon whom she doted. When aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt than her sister. The Babylons came to her and defiled her and her mind was alienated from them. My mind was alienated from her - as it was from her sister. O Aholibah, I will raise thy lovers against thee with chariots, wagons and wheels. They will deal with you hatefully. I will do this because you went whoring after the hearthen and are polluted with their idols. Son of Man, declare unto them their abominations. They come into my sanctuary the same day that they have slain their children to their idols. Righteous men shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses. I will bring a company upon them to cause lewdness to cease out of the land so that women may be taught to not do after your lewdness. You will bear the sins of your idols and you will know that I am the Lord God.
* 24 *Say a parable unto the rebellious house. Set a pot with water in it. Gather every good piece into it. Burn the bones under it. Make it boil well. Woe to the bloody city to the pot whose scum is therein. I will make the pile for the fire great. Then set it empty upon the coals that the filthiness of it may be molten in it. There is lewdness in thy filthiness. I have purged thee and thou were not purged. You will not be purged any more until I have caused my fury to rest upon you. I have spoken it. It will come to pass. According to your ways and doings they will judge you. Son of man, I take the desire of your eyes, but you will not weep. In the morning Ezekiel spake to the people; at even his wife died. In the morning he did as he had been commanded. The people asked him to explain these things to them. He said the word of the Lord came to me saying I will profane my sanctuary. Your sons and daughters that you have left will fall by the sword. And you will do as I have done. You will not mourn or weep but shall pine away for your iniquities.
* 25 *Son of man prophesy against the Ammonites. Because you said Aha when my sanctuary was profaned, and the land of Israel when it was desolate; and Judah when they went into captivity I will deliver you to the men of the east. Because you rejoiced in heart against the land of Israel I will deliver you as a spoil to the heathen. Because Moab and Seir say the House of Judah is like to all the heathen I will open the side of Moab unto the men of the east with the Ammonites. Because Edom took vengeance on the House of Judah I will stretch my hand upon Edom. I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel. I will stretch my hand upon the Philistines and they will know that I am the Lord when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.
* 26 *Because Tyrus spake against Jerusalem, I am against Tyrus saith the Lord God. It shall be for spreading nets in the midst of the sea. Her daughters in the field will be slain with the sword. I will bring Nebuchadrezzar upon Tyrus. The dust of his horses will cover you. He will tread down all thy streets. He will slay thy people. He will make you like the top of a rock. You will be built no more! Will not the isles shake at the sound of your fall. The princes of the sea will put off their robes and will clothe themselves with trembling. I will make you a terror and you will be no more. Thou you be sought for you will never be found again.
* 27 *The word of the Lord came to me saying, "Say unto Tyrus- O you - at the entry of the sea! Who has said I am of perfect beauty. Many nations were your merchants. All will fall in the midst of the sea in the day of your ruin. The mariners and pilots will weep for you. The kings of the isles will be afraid. You'll be a terror & never shall be any more.
* 28 *Son of man tell the prince of Tyrus because his heart is lifted up and he said I am a god in the midst of the seas - yet he is a man. Though you set your heart as the heart of God. With wisdom and understanding you have gotten riches. Your heart is lifted up because of your riches. Therefore I will bring strangers upon you. Will you say to the man that slays you - I am god. You will die the deaths of the uncircumcised. Son of man say to the king of Tyrus, you have been in Eden the garden of God. You were perfect in your ways until iniquity was found in you. You have been filled with violence. Your heart was lifted up. You have corrupted your wisdom. You defiled your sanctuaries by your iniquities. I will bring you to ashes upon the earth. Prophesy Son of man, against Zidon. They won't be a prickling brier to the house of Israel any more.
* 29 *Son of man, Prophesy against Pharaoh, King of Egypt, that says my river is my own and I have made it for myself. I will bring you out of your rivers and leave you thrown into the wilderness.Egypt has been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. I'll bring a sword upon you. The land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste. It won't be inhabited 40 years from the tower of Syene to the border of Ethiopia. At the end of 40 years I will gather the Egyptians and will cause them to return and be a base kingdom. It will not exalt itself anymore. I'll give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar for his labor.
* 30 *Son of Man -Howl for the day is near. The sword will come upon Egypt. They that uphold Egypt will fall. In that day messengers from me will go forth in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid. I'll make the rivers dry and sell the land into the hand of the wicked. I will destroy the idols. The word of the Lord came to me saying I've broken Pharaohs arm. I'll scatter the Egyptians and strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon.
* 31 *Ask the king of Egypt "Who are you like in your greatness?" The Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon. The waters made him great. His height was exalted above the trees of the field. He was fair in his greatness for his root was by great waters. No tree in the garden of God was like him in beauty. Because he has lifted himself up, I have driven him out for his wickedness. I caused a mourning in the day that he went down into the grave. I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall.
* 32 *Son of man, tell Pharaoh he's like a whale in the sea that troubles the water with his feet. I'll spread my net over thee and will leave thee on the land. I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains and will water the land with thy blood. The sword of the king of Babylon will come upon you. The daughters of the nations will lament for her. In the 12th year, 15th day of the month the word of the Lord came unto me saying wail for Egypt. Asshur is there and her company. There is Elam slain by the sword. They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain. There is Mesheck, Tubal and her multitude. There is Edom, her kings & princes. There are the princes of the North, and the Zidonians. Pharaoh shall see them and be comforted over his multitude. I have caused my terror in the land of the living saith the Lord God.
* 33 *The Lord explains the duty of a watchman. Ezekiel was set as a watchman unto the house of Israel. Son of Man, speak unto the house of Israel. Say unto them, As I live, I've no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel. A righteous man's righteousness will not deliver him in the day that he sins. If the wicked turn from his sin and do that which is right he shall not die. In the 12th year, 10th month and 5th day of the month one who had escaped from Jerusalem brought word that the city had fallen. Son of man speak to the children of Israel that say Abraham inherited the land and it is given to us as an inheritance. Tell them that they eat with the blood; they lift their eyes toward idols; they shed blood; they stand on their sword; they work abominations and defile their neighbor's wife. Thus says the Lord God, I will lay the land most desolate. Son of man they speak of you saying, come and hear the word of the Lord. They come and sit before you as my people. They hear your words but they will not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness. You are to them as a lovely song for they hear your words and do them not. When this comes to pass, for it will come to pass, then they will know that a prophet has been among them.
* 34 *Son of man prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Woe be to the shepherds that feed themselves instead of the flocks. You have not fed the flock; you have not strengthened the diseased, nor healed the sick; you haven't brought that which was driven away; You haven't bound up the broken; you haven't sought the lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them. They were scattered because there is no shepherd and became food for the beasts of the field when they were scattered. My flock was scattered and none did seek after them. Thus saith the Lord God; I am against the shepherds and will require my flock at their hand. I will search and seek out my sheep. I will bring them out from the people and will bring them to their own land. As for my flock I judge between cattle, between the rams and the he goats. Is it a small thing that you've eaten the good pasture, but must ye tread down the residue of your pasture with your feet. Must ye foul the water with your feet after you have drunk of the deep waters? My flock must eat what you have trodden with your feet; and drink what ye have fouled. I will save my flock. I will set up one shepherd over them, and he will feed them, even my servant David. There shall be showers of blessing.
* 35 *Son of man set thy face against mount Seir. Thus saith the Lord God; O mount Seir, I am against thee. I will make thee most desolate. You've had a perpetual hatred and have shed the blood of the children of Israel in the time of their calamity. As I live, I will prepare you unto blood - and blood shall pursue you. Your cities shall not return because you said these two nations shall be mine and we will possess it. I will do according to your anger and envy which you have used out of your hatred against them. You will know that I am the Lord and that I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel. With your mouth you have boasted against me. As you rejoiced at Israel because it was desolate, so will I do unto you.
* 36 *Son of man prophesy unto the mountains of Israel. Because the enemy has said even the ancient high places are ours in possession, In the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen. Say to the mountains, hills, rivers, and valleys. Because you have borne the shame of the heathen, the heathen about you will bear their shame. But you will shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to my people of Israel. I am for you; and you will be tilled and sown. I will multiply man and beast upon you. I will do better unto you than at your beginnings. You shall know that I am the Lord. I will cause my people Israel to walk upon you. You shall not devour men any more, nor bereave thy nations. Son of man, When Israel dwelt in their own land they defiled it by their own way. I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed and for their idols. I scattered them among the heathen according to their way. Everywhere they went they profaned my holy name. I do not this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for my holy name's sake. I will sanctify my name. The heathen will know that I am the Lord. I will take you from among the heathen and will bring you into your own land. I will cleanse you from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and new spirit. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh. I will put my spirit in you and cause you to walk in my statues. You will keep my judgements. You will dwell in the land that I gave your fathers. You will be my people and I will be your God. I will save you from all your uncleannesses. Then you will remember your own evil ways and will loathe yourselves for your iniquities. Then the heathen that are left round about will know that I the Lord have built the ruined places. They shall know that I am the Lord.
* 37 *The hand of the Lord carried me in the spirit of the Lord and set me down in the mist of a valley which was full of very dry bones. He asked, "Can these bones live?" I answered, "Lord, You know." I prophesied as he commanded me and they lived and stood up on their feet. He said unto me, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say our bones are dried and our hope is lost. Say to them, O my people I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. You'll know that I am the Lord when I have opened your graves. Son of man take one stick and write on it for Judah: then take another stick and write on it for Joseph, the stick of Ephraim. Join them one to another and they will become one in thy hand. Tell them I will take Judah and Ephraim and they will be one in my hand. I will make them one nation in the land. They will not be divided into two kingoms any more. They won't defile themselves with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with their transgressions. I will save and cleanse them. They will be my people and I will be their God. And David my servant shall be king over them. I will make an everlasting covenant of peace with them. The heathen will know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them forever.
* 38 *Son of man, set your face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal and prophesy against him. Prepare thyself and the company that has assembled with thee. Be a guard unto them. You will be visited after many days. You will ascend and be like a cloud to cover the land. You will think an evil thought. I will go to them that are at rest to take a prey. In that day when my people dwell safely shall you not know it? You will come out of the north with a mighty army. You will come as a cloud to cover the land against my people Israel. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against my land so the heathen may know me. It will come to pass at the same time, that my fury shall come up in my face. Surely in that day there will be a great shaking in the land of Israel; All will shake at my presence and the mountains will be thrown down and every wall shall fall to the ground. I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains. Every man's sword will be against his brother. I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood. I will magnify and sanctify myself. They will know that I am the Lord.
* 39 *Son of man prophesy against Gog. I will turn you back and leave but the sixth part of you. I will cause you to come up from the north and will bring you upon the mountains of Israel where you and all your bands will fall. I will send fire upon Magog and those that dwell carelessly in the isles. They will know that I am the Lord. I will not let them pollute my holy name any more. Behold it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord God. This is the day whereof I have spoken. Israel will go forth and burn the weapons for seven years. They shall spoil those that spoiled them. In that day I will give Gog a place of graves in Israel. There they will bury Gog and his multitude and shall call it The valley of Hamongog. 7 months shall Israel be burying them to cleanse the land. Son of man speak to the fowls and the beasts. I sacrifice for you that you may eat flesh and drink blood. You will be filled at my table with horses and chariots, mighty men, and men of war. The house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward. The heathen will know that Israel went into captivity for their iniquity. I will not hide my face anymore from them. I have poured out my spirt upon the house of Israel says the Lord God.
* 40 *Through visions, God brought me into a very high mountain in the land of Israel. There was a frame of a city to the south. A man was there with the appearance of brass. He had a line of flax and a measuring reed in his hand. He stood in the gate. The man said unto me, Son of man, see with your eyes and hear with you ears. You have been brought here so that I could show these things to you and that you can declare them to the house of Israel. The reed in his hand was 6 cubits and a hand breadth. There was a wall on the outside of the house. The breath of the building was one reed and the height was one reed. He came to the gate that looks to the east. The threshold of the gate was 1 reed broad. Every little chamber was 1 reed long and 1 reed broad. Between the little chambers were 5 cubits. Additional measurements are made.
* 41 *Afterward he brought me to the temple. The temple is measured.
* 42 *He was taken into the utter court, the way toward the north. Additional measurements are made.
* 43 *We returned to the gate that looks to the east. The glory of the God of Israel came from the east. His voice was like a noise of many waters and the earth shown with his glory. The visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar and I fell upon my face. The spirit took me up into the inner court. I heard him speaking unto me out of the house and the man stood by men. He said unto me, the place of my throne shall the house of Israel defile no more. They've even defiled my holy name by their ahbominations that they have committed. Therefore I have consumed them in my hanger. Let them put away their whoredom and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever. Son of man show the house to Israel that they may be ashamed of their iniquites. Let them measure the pattern. If they are ashamed of what they have done, show them the form of the house and write it in their sight that they may keep the whole form and all the ordinances thereof. This is the law of the house. Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit shall be most holy. These are the measurements of the alter. These are the ordinances of the alter to offer burnt offerings thereon and to sprinkle blood thereon. The priests shall be given a young bullock for a sin offering. On the 2nd day you will offer a kid of the goats without blemish for a sin offering. You will cleanse the altar as you did with the bullock and then offer a young bullock without blemish and a ram without blemish. Seven days you will prepare every day a goat for a sin offering: and a young bullock and a ram out of the flock without blemish. Seven days shall they purge the altar and consecrate themselves. When these days are expired, the priests shall make your burnt offerings upon the alter and I will accept you.
* 44 *He brought me back by the way of the eastern outward sanctuary gate. It was shut. The Lord said this gate shall be shut and not opened because the Lord hath entered in by it. The prince shall enter and leave by the porch of that gate. He then brought me the way of the north gate and the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord and I fell on my face. The Lord said, Hear all that I say to you about the ordinances of the house of the Lord and say to the rebellious house of Israel, "You have brought strangers - uncircumcised both in heart and flesh- into my sanctuary to pollute it. You have not kept the charge of my holy things. No stranger shall enter into my sanctuary. The Levites that went astray will bear their iniquity;but they may be ministers in my sanctuary. They will not do the office of a priest because they caused the House of Israel to fall into iniquity. The house of Zadok will come near unto me because they kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me. They will not shave, only poll their heads. They will not drink wine; they will not marry a widow nor her that is put away. They will teach my people the difference between the holy and the profane; the clean and the unclean. They shall judge according to my judgments.
